i bought this Trade dollar and for the price I would think it was fake but from the condition of the coin I think it is real, either way it is a filler for my type book, anyway do yall think it is real or do yall think it fake. thanks *** Edited by Staff to clarify topic title. to the forum. I'm sure there will be plenty of folks who can give better information that I but it looks fake to me. There have been a lot of these brought over from China on the counterfeit market. The entire surface texture just doesn't look like anything I've seen before one a silver coin. There are much more experienced folks than me on the board but I'm glad to welcome you and I'm glad the price paid doesn't sound too extreme. How's the rest of your type book?

tough to say in this condition...it looks like it spent time in circulation then in salt water. I've seen old silver coins my metal detecting buddies find in salt water with similar textures. The problem with this theory is that from what I understand Trade dollars didn't really circulate.

my type book is getting along good being that I am only 16 this coin in decent condition would cost me some money so I decided to take a chance with this one on ebay, I figured it would be fake but it fills a whole in my book so I cant complain. when I get some time ill post pics of my album to show my progress

I don't understand, so you would put a fake coin in your album to just fill a hole? if that is the case you should be able to finish the whole album for under 50 bucks in Uncirculated looking coins. Now to the coin in question, I don't know since its so worn but something doesn't look right to me, the date looks awful small and weird looking. Trade dollars are one of the most copied coins that I know of and have been for many years but I am not 100% sure if this is fake but I would be suspicious

First off, ! Secondly, , I'd rather have an empty hole for a while than have a known fake there. Hope yours is a real one! I just think that people who would knowingly put fake coins in their collection are feeding the Chinese counterfeit industry. Just something to think about.

to the Community, coinyoungsta! Quote: I'd rather have an empty hole for a while than have a known fake there I have to agree as well. Without a hole, I have no incentive to fill it with the proper coin. I guess that is why I never got into the 'upgrade' game. Once a hole is filled, I am usually happy because I already put a nice example in there, not a filler.

I've thought about filling a hole with a copy or something but couldn't bring myself to do it. but to each his own and my collection isn't yours. On the subject of your collection, you can start a new post and show yours off. We love pics. You can also do a search and see many superb examples of 7070 albums brimming with droolers .

thanks guy, I thought about what yall said and figured that it wasnt worth having a fake coin in my collection. So I sent it back to the dealer for a complete refund, and bought an upgrade 1876-cc VF-20 Seated quarter for my type set
