Found an old rusty V nickel in some rolls last night and was wondering what can I do to clean it up and possibly see the date? I soaked it in nik-a-date last night hoping that something would come out and I was able to see the top of the head, the 18 on the date and the stars on the front and the wreath on the back. Is there anything else to try since the coin is basically destroyed anyways?

A Liberty nickel will not rust since it has no iron content. It may be severely corroded or it may have been in contact with an iron object, leaving a rust stain on the surface. Cannot tell for sure without a picture though. If it is severely corroded, there is not much you can do because details are already permanently lost. Nic-a-date would probably be the only option to bring out a bit of detail but even that will probably leave you with disappointing results.

Are you sure that is a coin? Or is the photo that poor? This could well be a coin from an alien world. If it really looks like that I suggest placing in a roll, take to the bank, sit at home laughing at the next person that gets on this forum asking how to fix that thing.
