I was at my dealer today, when a man came in with some coins to sell. It was obvious that he was clueless about the hobby, as he did not even know what they were (or, in this case, what they were supposed to be). My dealer told him they were fakes right off, and then produced a magnet, and all the coins stuck. I asked him what they were (at the time, I was looking at something across the shop). He showed me some others that had come in which were donated by the people who had tried to sell them in the past, and they were all obviously fake assorted silver dollars, including Peace, Morgan, and Seateds. He then showed me a notice from the F.B.I. that they are trying to find out who in the area is responsible for distributing all these fakes. He told me he gets at least 3 people in each week who've bought these and are trying to sell them. This really gets my goat! Imagine what this says about this hobby to people who don't know about it! I hope they get these folks!

Anyways, if you hear about someone in SoCal who isn't in the hobby talking about getting a good deal on old coins, I suggest you warn them!

They are career criminals and believe me, their luck will run out someday. They can't stay on the straight and narrow, it's not in their makeup. I live just North of you and will be waiting for more developments.

Joe's coin shop on Norse. I like liberty, but Joe's has a "homier" feel, the owner is cool, and there are some good deals to be had there. Are you from the LBC, where the sewer meets the sea?
