I was going through some cents and came across this one. At first it looked normal, but then I saw what looked like a ghost image of the memorial that was slightly to the right of the full struck memorial. I also think I see very faint vertical lines between the columns. Am I seeing things or is there actually something there? What is it?

Hi

You may need to add some more info and pics of the whole
coin both obv. and rev. Date etc.
May be something going on here or maybe not.

Those are fading die scratches. At one time they were strong, but with continued use of the die, they flatten until they disappear altogether or remain as waves in that area on later die states. When they are next to devices, they sometimes remain a lot longer than just in the fields.

Yup, old and strong die scratches. Probably to remove a clash mark.
