It maybe. Is there a lipped area next to the frosted area. It looks like it may have flaked off after striking. Even a little copper is showing.

Hi coop:

Here are some additional pic's around the outer area of the possible lamination. It looks like a lip area to me and there also seems to be some flaking under the 2.

Thanks for any help on this!

I would suggest soaking a little in acetone and then reposting it to see if the seam is still there or if the seam was just from dirt sticking to a stain.

Some for of corrosion maybe. Possibly some one split coke on it. Just guessing.. I don't know for sure. It however does not look like any of the laminations I have seen before.

Hi,

It's not a lamination error. Veteran roll searchers are finding many coins damaged like this. Some are worse than others. Some people are starting to call them "Katrina" coins as they seem to have been immersed in water for a period of time, causing staining and decomposition.

I am not 100% sure about the origins of the coins but I have seen hundreds like this. I am 100% sure though that it is damage.

Thanks,
Bill
