How many of you have sent complete 1953 SF PL (or mint) sets to ICCS and had them come back all PL, some PL or all MS?

Thanks

Heloo Papeldog (great name)

The major grading services (including ICCS) no longer believe that 1953 NSF coins were made as proof-like and will no longer grade 1953 NSF material as such. They do, however, think that 1953 NSF specimens were made and if you have a PCGS coin labeled as 1953 PL, they will relabel it (for free) as SP-whatever PL grade it had. If you have such a coin, it is already listed as SP on the PCGS web site.

That is good to know I have a PCGS 25 cent coin that I purchased several years ago that is graded PL-65 NSF in the old holder. I also have a PL-65 SF cameo in a ICCS holder. Thank you for the info.

Hi Coinsrfun,

I found out about the PCGS policy when I tried to check out on line a 1953 pl64 nickle I bought. I contacted them and they sent the forms to have them relabel the coin from PL to SP. If you look on the PCGS registry site for several NSF coins (nickles is one of them) it says that the decision to convert NSF PL to SP was made about a year ago (or at least it did recently).

ICCS info, I collect 1953 PL material seriously. I have 2 complete original PL sets that are ICCS graded. I also have several other 1953 dollars including a PL66 HC. I found ICCS policy (which apparently changed a couple of years ago) in searching for a 1953 NSF PL dollar.
