I'd say........(nice Avatar by the way !....

) ....... if you're going to start with Cents,
to just look for Memorial Cents, Wheat Cents, and Indian Head cents in starting out.Looking for varieties is/can be fun and rewarding too, of course, but it's a little tough as well, and
VERY time consuming.
You can ask for a box of "any" denomination of coin, of course, for just plain ole "roll hunting fun". Like the "Silver Hunting" threads of Halves, Qtrs., and Dimes, of which I'm sure you've seen here. Those are fun and one can put together coin albums of the Moderns that way fairly quickly too, while you're looking for Silver. But,
BE WARNED !, ONCE YOU FIND YOUR FIRST PRE-'64 SILVER COIN (dimes/qtrs)..... YOU'RE HOOKED ON ROLL HUNTING FOR SILVER MY FRIEND !But, until you're more practiced with the "eye" for varieties.....I'd just look for Wheaties, Indian Heads, and even Memorial Cents, while roll hunting with Cents.
Nickels are fun too.......you can get surprises there as well.....might even find ya a
War Nickel (30% Silver).
If you
ARE willing to take the time ......with a "Mag. Glass" for instance, and look at each and every one closely......there are all kinds of things to look for........(a
RedBook shows you nice examples of some varieties.....years to locate them......DDO's.....etc.
