the names and writing are not printed. The paper is the right texture and thickness. any help on this? This 70 year old man brought this to sell me today. He claims he found it in an old home's attic back in 60 or 62'. He could'nt remember which year. Got it for a song . Real or not. . .Real? Or not?

I am by no means an expert on paper money...but after a quick search I found this with the exact same serial #. I'm guessing repo!

Most likely a reproduction. There is a website.. I can't remember the URL, but it has a bunch of these old type notes and it lists the real ones and the copies. The best way to tell is the ink and printing on the money. If both matches then copy. Not sure if that is the right way to tell..

I don't think you can redeem notes as the Bank of the US no longer exists?

If anything, the find story should raise flags. $1000 was a very large sum in the mid 19th C., and such a note would never be in the public's hands--that would be for interbank transfers, right?

And nobody would hide away such a note. After all...in 1840, that $1000 would purchase a nice home. Nowadays, "attic finds" are a common method to add history to an otherwise questionable item.

"The paper is the right texture and thickness."

The right texture and thickness for what? A modern note?

The paper I've handled from that period tends to be quite thin and delicate.
The paper pictured looks a lot more like the replica Confederate paper money I see so often.

Methinks you have a genuine fake there.
