a 1976 IKE ?
Dwight Eisenhower

All of these could apply except being imprisoned but maybe that has something to do with being behind enemy lines.
He is Iconic to the US
First Clad Dollar
Could be special being part silver or not or proof or not
The twin could be different mints with the Apollo Eagle
There are type one and type 2 reverses

I'll just have a stab in the dark and say an Australian 1927 KGV Parliament house florin.

Australia's first comemorative coin.
Special but still used in normal circulation.
Another 'normal' florin was produced that year (could be its twin but different?)
Not an animal.
Parliament house is an icon of Australia.
There has been a new pariliament house built since so a twin but not born at the same time.

Anyway there is my guess!

Oops, I missed the not an animal part, and I cannot find the coin I'm looking for, hence I can't remember the name, but there is a coin with an aboriginal man on it (commerative?) and I think that's the one...does this count?

b_j_w_79, I wish I'd thought of the 1927 florin. You could be on a winner IMHO.

Correct guesses so far:

It is a 50c piece
The reverse does feature a person.

Gee Nancy, that didn't take long. We have a winner.

To answer the questions:

I am an iconic figure to my Country. Captain James Cook, discovered Australia

I am the first of my kind. Our first commemorative 50c

I am special, and yet I am not. Released as a circulation issue, but also as a specimen issue.

I was born free, yet imprisoned at the same time. Again, into circulation, and imprisoned in a plastic box.

I have a twin, but we were not born together. There is a silver coin issued in 1989.

Before my twin was born, it was discovered that not all of us were the same. There is a date variety.

The coin you have won is a specimen in the original red plastic holder. Picture in a few minutes.

Who-Am-I?--Number-2---Cryptic.-Winner-Nancyc

The box has the scuffs you would expect for it's age, but the coin is nice.

I have your address Nancy. Will be in the mail today.

Tricky! Congrats Nancy on your guess!

Btw, has anyone here been to the spot of Cook's unfortunate death? It's an isolated spot in Hawaii, near the aptly named town of "Captain Cook". Australia has built a memorial there to Captain Cook. It's also a great place to dive, snorkel and kayak. If you ever get to Hawaii, check it out.
