Can anyone give me some advice on a good U.S. type album? I have a pretty good start on a U.S. type collection that I am storing in the Dansco type album. There are some things about the album I really like; the coins are handsomely displayed. But I also have some differences with what Dansco considers a "type." For example, there is only one spot for a trime (but there are three types of trime.) Also, there are spaces for three Seated Liberty quarters when the Red Book recognizes five types. (Same problem for Seated Liberty dimes).

Also, I would like a type album that recognizes U.S. Philippines as U.S. type coins.

Any suggestions?

I do not think that anyone makes an album like you are describing, the Dansco album already has almost 80 coins in it. The only Type album I have seen to contain more coins that the Dansco 7070 is the Intercept Shield Type album- it has all of the newest 21st century issues but no extras for the classics. You will probably have to create your own custom album using 2x2 pages and a binder. I have a 7070 and have been accumulating some the unlisted coins, namely the other two trimes and the large diameter Capped Bust dime and quarter. I guess the question becomes "how far do you want to carry it?" You could easily come up with a huge number of coins for an all-inclusive type set especially if you go back to the first Federal coinage in 1793. As for myself, I am not too interested in saving up for a Chain Cent to pop into a type album

BTW, if you include Filipino types, you would have to include the Hawaiian types as well

Thanks for the input. Like biokemist6 it will be a long time before I spring for a chain cent, but it would be nice to collect all three trimes and all of the seated liberty types (at least those that are identified as types by the Red Book) and have them in a nice album.

I need a place in my album for the recent stuff, so I'm going to look into the Intercept Shield. Thank you for that tip.

(and you're right. I forgot about the Hawaiians)

When I was younger, I found an old used Whitman type set that was in two volumes - one for small coins ( Half Cents - quarters) and one for large coins (half dollars & dollars). It had some types not found in the Dansco 7070. For instance, I do remember it had 3 holes for trimes and I believe it had spaces for the Seated Liberty quarters & halves with arrows as well as spaces for those with arrows and rays. I no longer have mine, but I have seen them on ebay before. I believe they also made the type sets in the cheap folder version, but I had the nicer albums with vinyl windows.

The problem with these is that I believe they were made in the 60's or early 70's so they don't have any spaces for the more modern coins.

I'm using a Dansco 7070 album for now, but I am seriously considering moving to making my own with a binder and vinyl 2x2 pages.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll browse ebay to see if I can find one of those older Whitman albums. I like the 7070, but I wish I had the extra spaces.

Of course, another good thing about the 7070 is that it gives me a goal. I'm a long way from filling mine!

I just did an ebay search and I didn't see either of the volumes listed. I did see an older Basic US type set, but that is not the one that I was referring to.
