Thanks to a friend, I was sent an variety book which helped me spot this "high 7" variety.
Funny how I didn't notice it without the book--it's pretty obvious.

Yes, easy to see when the picture is as big as your head, maybe not so easy in hand

Edited to remove some info that may already be in that book. When my copy arrives I will check, and if not, will send it on. Relates to mint marks on our war time silver.

Of course...my hobby is all about high-magnification.
I received the coins today--thanks so much! I'll post big photos later.

All the 1927 Halfpennies I have seem to be the same as the one in the top post and I have no info on varieties for them, although I mainly concentrate on the Pennies. I did find the two below though as I looked through the '20's coins. The top pic shows a leaning 9 and the date spans 13 denticles, while the bottom pic has an upright 9 and 12.5 denticle span.

What about the tail on the nine itself? One is sharp the other is thicker.

Those pics sure help me see the difference.
A while back, I spotted this 1921 in a bargain bin:

Awesome, DV! I have yet to check mine.. I hope I find some interesting stuff, as well. Do you have a 'normal' 1927 for comparison?

Xshift, thanks again for that book! Good luck on your search...I'll have to see if there's another '27 here.

To be honest, I thought all '27 halfpennies were like this, I just double checked and I don't have a "normal 7" at all.
Makes me wonder what the harder type of 7 is to find?

Jackool,
Thanks for checking!
I'll keep looking for the "normal" 7.

DV, Mate... After looking through all my '27's and even buying more to search... Nothing!
I am almost convinced that the standard issue is the raised 7. If anyone else has a normal 7, can you please post a pic?
Thankyou =o)

Thanks for your exhaustive search--that's interesting!
So this will be the "normal" date unless I hear otherwise.

No worries, DV!
I guess so... Well I am go with that, for now...
This is the beauty of coin collecting, nothing is set in stone. Afterall, there might be a gigantic mint-box of UNC 1930 pennies sitting under someones house, or buried. You never know...
I love it.
