Where do you see that price? I looked and I see $2,060 (but that is just raw coin, not slabbed).....I just wanted to make sure I am looking at the same place other people look.

I have an American Eagle, not a Buffalo.

If Numismedia says the coin is worth $2,060, does that mean I will be able to sell it for that price? The prices Numismedia quotes are for "raw" coins. What if my coin is slabbed?

Have you checked the completed listings on ebay? I think it is a fairly good indicator of what people are willing to pay for specific coins.

I found one seller on ebay that has it for $1,895, which is about $200 less than what numismedia says it is worth. I am assuming that the price of this coin will keep increasing as gold prices rise.

Thanks for the input all......

I'd hang onto the coin unless you need the money now. You would have no problem getting $1800 for it today. Many people will pay that for a certified, PF70, $50 GAE.

Because the U.S. Mint is not striking GAE proofs in 2009, there has been a lot of speculation around these this year. I recently sold several ounces of raw GAE proofs in OGP for $1700/oz.

If GAE proof production resumes next year as expected, the premiums should drop a bit but with the USD tanking and gold seemingly headed for $1500/oz - you should have no problem getting $2000 for it next year.

Good Luck!

Of course if the price of the gold goes up because the USD tanks, does your purchasing power really increase between selling now, or selling later?

Sure it does. The USD is tanking relative to the world and that sends the price of gold up. Inflation in the U.S. is very low.

$1500 this year and $1500 next year will buy pretty much the same thing (say a 52" LCD TV) but next year you'll have a 52" TV plus $500 cash.

I plan on keeping the coin and then see what happens in 2010 with the price of gold. I bought the coin for about $940 maybe a year and a half ago.
