Hello. I have a question and I respect the advice of this forum.

I bought a Bausch & Lomb Folding Pocket Three-Lens Magnifier (5x, 10x, 15x, 20x). Does Bausch & Lomb make a good lens? I know 10x is an all round good power, but I occasionally like to look with higher power. And, I mean occasionally as I have cheap, poor quality 16x loupe that kills my eyes after awhile. Good buy?

Thanks, again.

I like Bausch & Lomb. They are generally on the higher price side but, make a great lens with exceptional clarity. It was a good buy IMO. I like mine ;-)

I just someone would make an affordable wide lens, like the width of a quarter. In about 30X. I'm stuck with a 10X eye piece from harbour freight (which works great by the way, just wish it was stronger).

They are a popular brand and as with any organization, some of their products are great, some good and some not so good. All depends on which ones you purchased. From your description, sounds like you puruchased a decent one. Now you didn't mention prices either so not easy to really say a good buy or not.

B&L is a very good brand and the multi-power comes in handy but I recommend a triplet at no more then 15x. I use a ANCO 14x doublet for error and variety searching that cost me less then $10 and I am very happy with it. If I ever talk myself into buying a really good triplet, B&L would be one brand I would consider.

I seen some at my book store in the coin section for about 20 bucks, too rich for my blood. I picked up one I like 30x at the flea market for 7 bucks.

Well, I received my Bausch & Lomb Folding Pocket Three-Lens Magnifier. To be honest, I am disappointed in the construction quality. The lenses are very good. Clear and minimal distortion at the edge. But, the cheap plastic construction is disappointing. The lenses are secured by a poor melt to the plastic (underside). And, the housing feels like it wouldn't survive a drop. Just an overall cheap feel. I was expecting more from Baush & Lomb and $34. But, with that said, it does the job with good lenses.

I, also, bought the BelOMO 10x Triplet Loupe Magnifier for $28. The lenses quality is the same as the Baush & Lomb. But, the construction is much cleaner and stronger. It is all metal with a powder coat finish. Much better in overall quality.

And, I agree that anything over 15x it is difficult to get a clear focus. Your so close to the coin, light is blocked out. I have actually burned my head toughing my lamp to get the right lighting!
