I presently have all my Presidential dollar proofs in Air-Tites (direct fit). Not a very organized way to display them. Are Dansco albums safe for long term storage? I never had any experience with albums.

For other coins, such as the Lincoln, I like the idea of albums that label spaces for what you should be looking for. But, I suspect different albums vary in what is labeled. Are Dansco's albums a good reference for guiding your search? I don't want to spaces that will never be filled because of extreme rarity or price. I understand that also depends on the type of coin.

I guess I'm a little confused on how one should collect. I know this probably varies from coin to coin. I want to start with a good representation based on each design, year, mint. The varieties within the previous can be a little intimidating.

If my post sounds stupid, I apologize. I need a Sensei. LOL.

Thank you.

Stephen

i have all my uncirculated and proof coins in air tites which are then placed in 2x2 so that organizes them better. as far as dansco albums being safe for long term storage I have asked the same question and some people say yes some say no. I have come to the conclusion that it depends on how you store the album and where it is stored.

i want to put all my coins in danscos but I feel my uncirculated coins are safer in the air tites.

as far as danscos being a good reference I guess they can be but that's one thing I don't like about them is they tell you what a set is when if I put them in 2x2 I can make my set my way.

I have developed a strong preference for Dansco albums over the years. I use Dansco "extra vinyl pages" designed for 2x2s for "special condition" coins or coins NOT "called for" by the pre-printed album. It all looks quite neat on the shelves.

This subject comes up a real lot. In reality by todays standards almost all Folders are still a mess for coins but almost all Albums are basically the same. They all protect coins equally which is not really saying to much. They are not intended to be air tight, just a form of protection against bouncing, touching, scratching, etc. To see such an example, regardless of the brand, just put your mouth to the slide in/out end and blow. You will notice that your breath goes in easily and will touch all the coins. This is the same with the air in any place you store such albums, folders and if not sealed properly, 2x2 flips as well. Albums are NOT even supposed to be air tight which means all sorts of gasses can get to your coins in any brand of Album.
I've got over 100 Whitman Albums now. All are in those Zip Lock Plastic bags with as much air pushed out as possible. I've had no problems with toning, tarnishing, corroding or anything. Every coin looks like it did the day I put them there.
You could place any manufacturers album in a dampish, corrosive air inviromment and the coins will be effected. They are just not ment to protect coins from gasses of any kind.

That is correct. I have been using Dansco albums for 25 years now. No problems, no regrets.
