Hi all!

I've been looking at commemorative halves at a couple of the local shops and online, trying to decide which 4 should grace those spaces in my 7070 album. I'm curious as to what everyone here has in theirs. Not what you WANT to have or what you would have if you could afford it, but what you currently have...even if just one space is filled. Pics?

I have none so far and haven't found any in my price range, but lots that are beautiful. I'm curious about what criteria you used to select the commemorative halves for yours.

Thanks!

I currently have the 1893 Columbian Exposition Half Dollars and two 1982 Washington Commemorative Half Dollars (one uncirculated and one proof).

The fourth hole (which is really the second hole since the two Washington coins are in three and four) is still empty.

jbuck: Nice! I think the Columbian Expo half was one of the ones that I was looking at earlier today. I kind of like the idea of having 2 each, proof and unc, but then I kind of would like 4 different.

I have the 1893 Expo, 1918 ILLINOIS CENTENNIAL, 1982 Washington and 1934 Texas. Got all for around $400.

elsjls: Good selections! I really want the 1934 Texas but it's a bit out of my price range right now. I was looking at one today for about $100...very nice coin, but I just couldn't do it yet. Maybe someday...

In addition to a Statue of Liberty half (1986), I have the following two halves in my album:

7070-Type-Set:-What-Commemorative-Half-Dollars-Are-In-Yours?

Pictures are stolen from the CCF page. My coins are in circulated condition. Each cost $40-50. Like you, I'm finding it hard to select an attractive but affordable half. I will eventually replace the Statue of Liberty half as well.

wheatiefan: Those are very nice...really like 'em! And that's exactly my problem. I don't mind spending a bit on these, but I just can't afford $100+ each for 4 commemoratives. Especially since a majority of my 7070 is being put together through circulated coins given to me from various inherited collections and others who have seen what I'm working on. The rest, I'm just buying nice looking but well circulated coins to complete the set. I want these to look good but fit in with the rest.

I bought the Washington Half Dollars from the mint in 1982. When I decided to crack up my proof sets to fill my Dansco holes, it felt like a good idea to put these in an album as well. Otherwise, I would probably have four different ones in the 7070.

jbuck: I think it would look good. There aren't many places in the 7070 where you could show something like that. Maybe the silver/clad could have unc/proof. I like it.

I put a nickel clad Kennedy in the first hole since there is no hole for one. Then I have an 1893 Columbian Expo half, a 1920 Pilgrim and then a 1986 Ellis Island half.

I have the following in the Commem slots:

1893 Columbian
1920-D Pilgrim
1925 Lexington
1926-S Oregon Trail

I wanted to commemorate major events in US history - discovery, initial settlement, independence and westward expansion. Here's pics:

I did the same as nolawyer, I used one of the holes for a clad Kennedy half, as I felt it should be part of a type set.
