I have managed to identify the coin, but I am not certain of my interpretation of the date. I originally came up with year 94, but knew right away that could not be correct. So I am assuming it is supposed to be year 49, which would make it 1974. Or I could be completely wrong. I wrote out the 2x2 but used a pencil for date. Could someone please help me to figure this part out.

And if anyone wants to throw out a grade on this coin, thanks for that too. (but date is major issue I have)
forget about grade, pics are too grainy.

Thank you very much DL20K. I've only a couple of Japanese coins, but the year is in western numerals (e.g. Y82). This is the first one I've had to attempt the Kanji. Once again, thanks.

No problem I know it's much easier to read the dates like this once you have/see a few of them.
