I have started a coin website. (Is it okay to post this) well here is the link http://www.freewebs.com/coinuniverse/ I just made it, I plan to make it great. Does anyone have any suggestions for it? |

Not too sure if you should use the title coin universe as collectors.com has the "rights" to it.

As a web designer and maintainer myself my main word of caution is to be very careful of Copyright laws. Do your research and you should be fine.
You may want to change your title quickly also. You could get yourself into a big lawsuit for using someone elses Copyright and/or Trademark. Also, .com names are purchased through web providers and can be costly.
I'll take a look at your site and offer any suggestions/ideas that I see are applicable for you.

Yes I did get your e-mail and I don't think that I have any Morgans to sell/trade or give to you. Wish I did. I'll check though to make sure and will let you know. Any particular date(s) that you need/want. The Coin Community has a lot of Morgan collectors! Keep trying! You didn't delete the entire web site did you?

I think we really need to tell these younguns how "trashy" it makes them look to beg for coins, we (us older collectors on this forum) didnt get our coins holding out a cup at the corner store, we had to pay/trade for what we have or we was fortunate enough to be left some from a family member (just because you arent as fortunate doesn't give you the right to beg for coins from people on this forum). I at first got a kick out of the first little begging spree but now when they are emailing people begging for specific coins thats just way to much.I have only been collecting for about 6 months and have bought almost every coin I have and have quite a few nice examples now, just because you are working off of an allowance doesn't give you the right to beg, do like I did as a kid get off your rearend and cut grass and stay off the xbox. I myself have received coins from people but not from begging just stuff people wanted to contribute to me and I am happy for them, But never would I sit here and ask another collector to send me coins for free just because I am just starting out. I know alot of you are young and the younger generation doesn't care about the "respect" issue of it but to me respect is everything and its hard to respect someone begging for money from someone they do not even know. Sorry to come down on all of you yunguns about this situation but it just makes me want to look for another forum to contribute to if this is going to become a "beg fest" here on this forum
Sorry for the rant but its starting to make me sick at my stomache with every post asking for coins

I had already broached this subject in another thread,,
I think it is just a matter of learning whats up in the forum,, and a little patient teaching will go along way to turning these young collectors into valuble members of the coin collecting community.
Lets be patient and teach !! Remember Education is the key to collector success, integrity is also taught, and a definte characteristic of success.

Rick I just saw your other thread on it and I am sorry for almost saying the same thing again,it was just bugging me and wanted to let them know (not knowing you had already did so) how respect will go along way with this hobby and begging is a quick way to lose all respect (from me atleast)
And you are right knowledge comes with time, but if others do not tell them what they are doing wrong they will think they arent doing anything wrong (again I posted the first one before I saw yours)

Come on guys! I've been working with these kids and they aren't "begging". They've been truthful, respectful and absolutely honest! Atleast their posts have been kind and their e-mails to the point. I've even made a suggestion for a thread for our young folks. They've given great suggestions for a possible book on collecting coins for youngsters. They've give other young people ideas for their collections and their honesty is commendable. Yes, working is always an option and I believe they know that. I also believe that they were hoping that they were speaking with adults that really wanted to help them with their own questions, doubts, errors and so forth. I too hope that every kid on the block doesn't try to take advantage of our kindness and so far they haven't. How many of us started by the kindness of someone else's heart.

I can see both sides. Wherby a happy/respectable and acceptable compromise is the answer.

Please forgive the fact that I've been out of touch for a while. I now understand why the idea of having a YN section was suggested.
I propose that we develop a YN section that is visible only to our YN's (you would all have to submit your usernames and ages to me) and our established members (members with 100 or more quality posts). I think this would enable our YN's to have access to trades with trustworthy members and also give those of us who want to take the time to help our YN's have a specific place to go to do that.
All numismatic discussions (coin identifications, values, etc.) would need to be posted in the appropriate sections on the regular forum for the benefit of all members. I would move any threads that appeared to belong in another section to the appropriate place.
What do you all think?
Please realize that you all would have to patient for this change to occur as Bobby and I are going to be caught up in our move until the end of June.
