How do you guys attribute your VAM's? Maybe its the same way I am trying to do it, which is go through the list on VAM world until you find it. I have for some reason gotten interested in VAM's, so I decided to go through some peace and morgans tonight. Well I was looking at a couple of 1922 Peace dollars and I noticed 2 of them had the detached olive branch. 1 is a 22p other is 22d. I can seem to attribute them though other than that. Is this what they call the B1a reverse? anyway thanks for the help

Yes, those are the earlier reverse dies. I taught myself years ago. Go online and buy yourself a few books on the subject. You can also find CD's about Vams in general. Careful... once you are hooked... well.. :)

so the reverse I have on those coins could just be a plain ole peace with no VAM? Are the earlier reverse dies more common than the late or just the same?

Just like Morgan dollars, all Peace dollars are Vams also. The short stem is a B1 reverse. Long stem B2. Beginners are at the mercey of the world, there is just no easy way to tell you how to tell your Vams apart. Just start checking pictures listed for markers that match your coin. It does get easier with time, but be careful, once you match up your first VAM, We've got ya!!

I got a copy of the Whitman book on Peace dollars. It helped me understand the basics of Peace dollars a lot better than the VAM info. It only has a few interesting varieties listed, but it also has stuff that helped me not waste time like 1926 "God" and 1922 detached/attached olive branches.
