Here's a bit of an oddball: a 1973 Peruvian silver coin commemorating the centennial of the inception of Peru-Japan trade relations. Maybe that event was particularly important for Peru? It probably would not have been my first choice for a commemorative coin concept!

Nevertheless, I liked the coin enough to shell out $13. Any comments or input on this one?

They [Peruvians] apparently continued valuing special Peru - Japan relationship by electing Alberto Fujimori a president in 1990.

"Peru issued 36mm silver 100 Soles in 1973 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Peru-Japan Trade Relations. Relations were formally established in 1873 after Japan seized a Peruvian merchant ship and Peru sent an ironclad warship to demand its release. Japanese immigrants began arriving in Peru in the late 19th century. In 1990 Peru elected Alberto Fujimori as President. He was the first person of Japanese ancestry to be elected leader outside of Japan."

That's the way to establish formal trade relations!

Great looking coin as I've always liked the silver coins from there.
