Picked this up recently for 50 cents. Obviously an altered 1889 IHC. Why someone did this is

Probably tried to pass it off as a "rare error". It is like the joke the dumb couterfiter who made "7 dollar" bills.

LOL...it's an early IHC "pattern" Did you get that at the SC show?
Someone even bothered to put dirt into the digit to hide their work.

I saw that DV. No, I picked this one up in Laughlin. Looks like he also worked on the top and middle of the "3".
