Well, its a common date, lower grade coin that I picked to play with. It has color to it that I was trying to capture and some wear that I was also trying to capture, this is why I chose this one. Any criticism will be considered constructive. Josh Josh

Josh,
I think the picture looks good. It shows the toning on the coin and the image is nice and sharp. I would however drop the reflection as it distracts from the point of the picture. Just my 2 cents. God Bless, Brad

Very nice pictures.
IMO the goal is to make an accurate picture. If it looks like the coin in hand, then it's a great picture. But if it looks better than the coin in hand, then you've done too much.
I agree with soldier4Christ. Although the reflections have a "cool" factor, they are distracting. The coin is attractive on its own.
BTW, what is your setup? Light type, camera lens etc. It would be helpful to others.

I can't criticize that picture at all. I kind of like the reflection but it would be probably a nice touch in some sort of catalogue or webpage. I agree the coin by itself would be better if you were wanting comments or selling it. I also agree that if that is what your coin looks like then it is done properly and well done. I wish I could do that. I also would like to know your setup.

Well done pics, better than I can do. I like the way you captured the purple tone under the feather at 9:00. nlp

Keep the reflection, I think it adds a little "pizazz" and it doesn't distract me at all. Great pix and welcome to CCF. John1

all I use is a 6mp panasonic with no zoom. 2 - 10watt florescent table lamps, and a white sheet of paper for backdrop. I don't use a stand, just my steady hand and auto focus from the camera. This one took about 4 different photos of obv/rev to get the two I showed.

You are getting some amazing results under the circumstances. The only constructive suggestion I would offer is that you'll gain that last 1% of sharpness with a stand and delayed shutter. Not that you really need to.

Just on a sidenote, I too use a Panasonic Lumix I received for my birthday and it tends to give the most amazing results.

Great pics....wow. I like the reflection too, but it would concern me as a buyer that the coin themselves might be touched up since you show talent with photoshop or w/e you are using. I wish that I could somehow take pics like those :( :(

Thanks guys, as for being concerned selling them, I'm not taking the pictures to sell them :) Just using them to make me happy!
