Found this in some change. A depression starts around "WE" and travels back around hair, then down through the E in "LIBERTY" and on down from there. And notice the indentation under "GOD" that flows down into the hair and ear to the base of the neck. And it sure looks like an extra ear up and to the left!
Coin is very dirty and many fine scratches, but seems very interesting to me . . .You?

Die break. The die is falling apart in that area. They get real ugly after the dies condition that made your coin.

Die chipping is when a crack widens to allow part of the die to ship off. When this happens, with that area missing from the die, it starts raising to fill the new void on the die. Also noted on Cud Cents where the area of the die is missing and that area remains un-shappened.

So rather than extra die, it is less of the die to from the coins. Thus the look of the coin you have. Happens.
