I grew up happy. Not dirt poor, but many luxuries were avoided.

My family was not on government aid but many of our friends were. These were embarrassing to have to take to the market, often sold for 40%-75% of face value on local gray market.

Just for the heck of it I thought to look at the auction fodder.

This is outright laughable to me. I suppose no different than collecting anything else but for some reason I just view it with such contempt. Curious what others think.

My story is similar. Poor, not desolate, but MANY friends were on food stamps. My single mother was way too proud to take anything, despite being eligible. However, when I was a kid I found a pink plastic round 50c Food Stamp token in the dirt behind the grocery store by my house with the stores name on it. I guess that the lowest denomination for food stamps was a dollar and the stores made ways to give back change (?, I'm guessing here, someone help me out). At that point in my life 50c was a huge amount of money, I was getting 25c a week allowance. However, I saved it (and still have it). Partly I saved it because it was a neat "coin" for my collection, but mostly because I was too embarrassed to use it.

Well, they were like currency, and were issued by the Federal Government, so it's hardly surprising people are collecting them now.

Did they only come in the three denominations? I don't really recall.

Reported and removed. That's property of the Treasury dept.
It doesn't matter that the seller is in Puerto Rico. Also, this is outright FRAUD. Paper stamps are still used in certain areas.

So, if they're still in use, how does one get them for their collection?

The link is now dead so I have no idea what this post is even about I thought that paper versions disappeared several years ago and now everything was on a debit card system in order to eliminate resale fraud.

I would say so...if you can even find them. I imagine most were destroyed, and it's impossible now, it sounds, to get them over the counter in a grocery store or anything.

Well I ask because I may have access to $40 dollars or so if they are worth the money...the problem is I would have to pay face for them. So if I could still get them would anyone be interested?

They might be worth getting, but I wouldn't pay face. Since they can't be redeemed by anybody now. Recipients had until June to use them, retailers had until July to deposit them and the clearing houses had until September to submit them. I can see how they would be collectable. You might see if you can get them below face since they can no longer be redeemed.

Then again, after seeing this, you might be able to make some money if they are still in the book and in good shape.

For sure. Can you imagine what a whole book of them would be worth, intact?

I wonder if they are going to appreciate in value as the years roll on. It might be worth picking some up for cheap if you can and sitting on them.
