So has anyone seen anything like this?

1922-Weak-D-With-Die-Gouge-Through-The-Mintmark?

1922-Weak-D-With-Die-Gouge-Through-The-Mintmark?

1922-Weak-D-With-Die-Gouge-Through-The-Mintmark?

I have been buying and selling weak D's for about a year now and this one has me confused.

It appears to be a die #1 but doesn't have the die crack or the bolder T-U-T of TRUST. And the reverse is not rotated like the die #3.

Regardless, I have had no luck researching any kind of die gouge through the mintmark of a weak D.

Can anyone give me any input on this one? I was going to throw it on ebay until I took a closer look at it with my loupe and saw the gouge and determined that it is probably worth a closer examination.

Thank you for your input.

Hi

It appears that the so called die gouge may be just
PM damage. Either that or the D is slightly rotated.
Motto looks scraped. What is that vertical area below
the 2nd 2 ? Looks raised like a chip. It is a 22-D
but not sure how weak or if just normal wear.

Thanks for the reply.
I am confident that it is a weak D. Pretty sure it is a die #1.
I don't see how the gouge(if that is what it is) could be post mint though. It is raised above the D.
The motto is not scraped, just glare from poor lighting.
And yes, there is a small ding under the second 2. I replaced my magnified pic with a clearer one.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this and if there is anything to it.

The weakness is not from circulation wear, but die abrasion from over cleaning. When they are BU some dies look worn. When they are graded they use the reverse for grading. But a lot of them look like that. I don't feel it is a weak D. Just a normal one for that year. It appears that the mint mark was scrapped with another coin or something. Just damaged.
