There are a lot of inaccuracies and ommissions in this list. Furthermore, lists like this one leave newer collectors only searching for what's on the list without regard to the fact that there is a LOT more out there. Best not to follow a list and search everything.

Learn what a coin should look like and then when you find one that looks odd, take a closer look.

I didn't say don't search everything. Sure go for it if ya want.I personally will let a half a million other coin collectors do it for me. I find I can move through 10X the amount of coins roll searching by doing some sorting with known error dates. I can hoard more copper and pull more old BU coins out of circulation faster and run back to the bank sooner to get more fresh rolls to open and more BU to save from further damage/circulation.

PS:Yes this is just a list of the well known $$$$keys and errors. There are some that can hide. My icon proves it. It was in hidding for 56 years.

Also without a list like this I would have put back into circulation about 5-6 small date 60's and some others. I would have not known about small dates before buying my Dansco without some kind of list.I would have been there staring at that empty hole in my album. That's why I posted this list.

It's very helpful. Besides, don't lists like these help with creating demand, which correlates with supply which determines a value? Periodically, I have searched for starting point lists to no avail. For us noobie coin collectors, its a start.. As I get older, I find I have more patience to look at the details of coins I have had forever and now, after finding coins that google isn't aware of, a list like this is perfect to add to the others I have..

This post should probably lead me to my first thread. I have questions! I am too lazy to read all these threads when I could be looking for tiny details on 50,000 wheaties!

Experimental Planchets

There are approximately 15 known 1999 State Quarters struck on Experimental Planchets. All five states in the 1999 series (DE, PA, CT, GA and NJ) have been discovered.
These Experimental State Quarters have sold for as high as $10,000 each, depending on which state, the coin's condition and which type of experimental composition was used.

There are four known types of experimental compositions which have been discovered so far on 1999 State Quarters.

Type #1 - This type has the "color" of a Sacagawea dollar and has the copper center core.
Type #2 - This type has the "color" of the Sacagawea dollar but does not have the copper center core.
Type #3 - This type has a slight "green" color and has the copper center core.
Type #4 - This type has a slight "green" color but does not have the copper center core.
Here are a few "telltale" signs to determine if you have discovered a State Quarter on an EXPERIMENTAL PLANCHET in circulation:
WEIGHT - The weight on ALL of these discovered so far is OVERWEIGHT - varying from 5.9 grams to 6.3 grams.
SIZE - It is slightly THICKER than a regular State Quarter, due to the heavier planchet.
COLOR - So far, the pieces discovered are either the same "color" of the Sacagawea dollar, or have a slight "green hue" to them.
LOOK - The edge is slightly rough and may have a higher rim around part of the edge.
EDGE - Some of these do NOT have the center COPPER CORE.
STRIKE - None discovered so far are proof-like in the fields.
REEDING - Some of these have incomplete reeding.
These coins were analyzed by spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) using electron microscopy and energy-dispersive x-rays to determine the alloy composition. The predominant metal is copper, followed by zinc. There are also small percentages of manganese and nickel. PCGS and NGC have both authenticated and certified these 1999 State Quarters as being struck on experimental planchets.

since 1918, the VDB(Victor David Brenner, the designer) has been located on the bottom of Lincoln's bust. However, any cent missing the initials is simply a case of over-aggressive die polishing since those initials are part of the main master design and are not added separately, they can be missing on a cent of any date.
