Basically, if you send a coin to a grading company, they will grade it and put it in a holder, which is called a slab. Here is an example.

The slab is very hard to get open, as the slab is intended to be permanent storage.

What does it cost to have it done? Do they charge by the coin. Also how do you know if you have a coin worth getting slabbed, if it's a key date? Thanks,

Wornslick

The cost to slab depends on the value of the coin and the level of service you choose. Figure anywhere from about $15 on up but you also have to include insured registered shipping both directions. In general, it is not usually cost-effective to slab a coin worth less than $100.

Imagine, you met a beautiful woman, took her home into your bedroom, locked the door behind her, throw away the key and now,
for the rest of your life you will look at her
through the glass door....
Welcome to the world of slabbing.
