Without the rim damage, surface marks, and filled hole I would grade it at F-15. G-6 with all the damage. This would be a nice pocket coin. Sorry to be so harsh.

No, Echizento, I agree with you. No apologies required!

I knew this coin was damaged from the ebay pics (lousy ones by the way..) I also knew I didn't have one in my Seated Liberty half dollar Dansco book. I also knew this was a low mintage coin. I saw no danger. I took the chance. (I did get it for a good price. So the coin's condition upon arrival was no real surprise. Sometimes you get what you pay for!)

There obviously was no mention of the plug in the ebay ad (or I would not have bought it). So the plugged condition was a bit of a disappointment. But overall, my ebay chance taking has paid off more than it has hurt me.

I just thought I'd post the pics and take the heat I deserve for the wild chance I took!

Not trying to pry Moe, but if you post the price paid for your coins we could be of more help.

If I didn't know better, I'd say that was the pocket piece of an unlucky WWI soldier.

I agree, it really depends on how much you paid. I'd say VF-20 details.

The seller wasn't very knowledgeable he if did not mention the plug, though.

The reverse definitely shows that the coin is plugged. But the obverse, where the plug matches the curve of the Head of the Seated Liberty is a bit different.

Just to be fair to the seller: Actually looking back at the ebay ad, it did say "plugged" way down in the description. I just didn't see it.

Now it's just to start coin conversations!

FYI: I paid $15.95.

It is a filler coin, obviously.

(Filler? Filled? Plugged? Same thing!)

$15.95 is not too bad for a hole-filler. Be cautious with 19th century, circulated silver coinage that looks clean though.
