As mentioned in my previous thread this Half along with a Latvian 5 Lati, 12 Ikes, 22 Morgans and 44 Peaces was purchased in a Harco album. Opinions Please?

Probably an obvious observation to those who are more familiar with this issue, but are those trail dies on the reverse "United States"? Probably the most glaring example I've seen...if I'm right. :)

With 49 different varieties to this date, I'm going to leave that part to the more experienced on this coin type. I would grade it at EF-45. Nice coin.

Quote: are those trail dies on the reverse "United States"? Nope, it is die wear/deterioration. Bust Half Dollars were struck without a collar so they have more "spread" than a modern coin struck in collar. Notice on the obverse how the star points are drawn out towards the rim, that is caused by die wear as well. On very late die state Busties, the outer devices will be extremely drawn and the dentils will be almost obliterated. It is a nice Bustie, initial impression is EF40/45

Looks like O-126 R2 from a quick look see. VF35-XF40. Depends on the day. The color looks off to me but I am assuming thats the photo.. Also what is going on under her chin and around the 7 in the date.

So how much did all that cost? That is a really nice looking coin you have there. Sure don't see them in change anymore.

From previous thread: OK Here is the deal, I bought a 5 page old Harris Harco Dollars Misc Album at an estate sale for $500.
All of the plastic holders were full for a total of 80 coins.
First the interesting: 1929 Latvia 5 Lati AU 1827 Bust 1/2 Dollar XF 12 Common Clad Eisenhower dollars all in pretty nice shape no problems
and now the ugly: 22 Common Date Morgans 44 Common Date Peace $'s all with a sticky, green, filthy mildew like substance all over them.

Thanks for the education biokemist...just starting to put the pieces together. You know that point where I'm starting to know the terms...but not the application thereof?
Also love the star deterioration on that 1828.

Sorry, while I read that figure in the story...I figured they might have been priced separately with a total of $500. :D

The edge lettering was done in a manner similar to the modern Presidential dollars, it was applied in a separate process with the edge lettering applied to a planchet and then the planchet struck into a coin.
