I voted undecided. If they want to talk to adults they should join us in the public forums. I don't have a problem with a YN forum strickly for them only. That way they can get together by themselves, talk about us and then come back out and amuse us with their ideas. But I guess determining who really is a YN might be a problem.

Well I voted undecided as well. If the younger members still had access to the general forum but had there own category then ONLY the young ones should have access. No older person (100 posts or not) should be able to access that area. That would keep it secure for them.
On the other hand I like the idea of the younger collector being able to interact with us "oldies" that is how they learn.
The Knights have there own area accessable only by them so our young collectors should have one as well.

There would seem to be some kinks to iron out before it's all said and done, but all in all I believe this is a good idea.sn31.

I think the idea is a great one. It will firstly make young collectors feel important as they have their own section. Secondly they can have there own place to talk to each other without the feeling of being intimidated by us oldies.

The yes votes are currently winning, but I have a concern about a seperateplace for youth -
There is nothing they can't ask or post on a public forum, -
Yes Rick - it would be much more work for the Mods.
the age on the forum is voluntary and If anyone has noticed each year I turn 39 again. - I could have made it 13.
I support the youth and want to see them get help, but I want them on the same field I am on- As they learn - We all learn- there is no question in this hobby that is too dumb or basic that we all couldn't stand a review every so often.
Welcome YNs.
Make yourselves comfortable- stay awhile- enjoy the wonderful world of coins-
by the way when a YN is bidding for a coin that I am bidding on- age does not matter- it is the quest (and of course the high bid)

I think I need to clarify that creating a YN section absolutely does not remove their ability to post in the other sections of the forum. This section is in addition to the other features that the forum has to offer.
Buffaloboy's comments are leading me to believe that this would be a bad idea. To be honest, I am even more interested in what our YN's have to say about this idea than in the adult members comments as this section would be for their benefit.
I do not ever want anyone to feel that they're not part of our CC family. I thought that it was clear that this section would be available to the YN's in addition to the rest of the forum, not as a replacement.
The reason that adult members would need to have access is for the knowledge that can be shared.

I Like it, I'm one of the first YN's here, I think. and only know of a few. For time being, Yes, but if theres lack of participation and lack of YN's theres actually no point. Though, theres actually something us "kids" can talk about from the newer generation, for e.g: Video games, YN trading...etc....

I also voted undecided. I am not sure how easy it would to determine a persons age, other then what they say they are. Moderating just that section could be a big job. I guess I am leaning towards no special YN section.
Maybe a big "sticky" on the main forum for YN's or an auto generated e-mail sent after they join pertaining to their age bracket might help them get started. Do's & dont's, forum etiquette kind of thing?
For the most part I think they may learn more faster participating in the regular forum.

No doubt that they can learn quicker from adults. My first hand experience is that I received e-mails and home addresses without question. There are so many wackos in our World today and children are sometimes too gullible and easy targets. We are talking monetary items. I don't have any answers but, I feel confident that Mom and Dad will do the correct thing for the YN's on the CC.

OF course I voted yes but I'm pretty sure all most most of you never thought I was 14. Right? So yes I voted towards the section but I have no hard time on this forum interacting with people years older than me.
Thanks for hearing me out!
Do you know even know what we are talking about this isn't about magic this is about our protection and besides I never met a 8 year old that collect coins and goes to forums at the same time. Iaxmaster this is a bad idea or do you not notice it cmon we are the same age do you want to be stalked by some wierd guy. I mean really

laxmaster92, you show a great deal of maturity as well as knowledge and enthusiasm regarding your coin collecting. You are a rarity indeed. I'm quite impressed, as I'm sure that other adults on the CC are also. Keep up the good work and you will have a bright future.

This would be a great idea if everyone was honest, but you don't know who people are. A coin collecting child predator could check out the forum see the YN section and join as a young teen. I voted yes, because I'd like to think it would not happen here.

I voted No. 1. A seperate section for the young might actually attract those who we wish did not exist and make it easier for them to target the young. 2. Let the kids be in the main forum where All the good Mom and Dad adults of the forum can keep an eye on them and make sure they are safe. 3. How many of us would not visit the youth section (let them have their privacy) and therefore not be aware that some danger has entered the forum? 4. The young collector may have some very basic questions, but a 60 year old newbie would have those same questions. Just my opinion. Perhaps the only protection would be to not let young collectors be privately messaged. Keep all the communication in the open.
