Poll Question
Please read this carefully before voting and vote before posting comments.

I propose that we set up a section specifically for our Young Numismatists. This section would only be visible by the YN's (regardless of the number of posts) and adult members with 100 posts or more. This is for security reasons. I am concerned with pointing out who our young collectors are as there are some sick people out there. I am sure that you all recognize the dangers that I'm trying to avoid.

We all understand that there are difficulties that young collectors face that are different from more mature collectors. I would like these issues to be able to be addressed in a more private format.

I hope that all members (and especially our YN's) will vote here so I can determine the need for this section.

Yes, I think we should have a YN section. 51% 25 Votes
No, I think YN issues should be on the public forums. 18% 9 Votes
Undecided, I can see pros and cons to both. 27% 13 Votes

Susan - I agree with all of your statements. Security for our young folks has been a concern of mine also. I almost prefer that the age wasn't available on our profiles but, it does help the adults to know who they're dealing with to answer "appropriately". Perhaps a 0 or something for those under the legal age might be an idea. Just something to indicate that they are youth's to the Community but, not to the public at large. I'm sure that you will come up with something. Thank you for addressing this issue.

I personally dont think they need a special hideout. I think, more than anything, the children can and will learn more when they interact more specifically with mature adults. Sure it might sting a few times when they correct you, but eventually, they will fit in. I know several kids under the age of 15 that would fit in here like a glove, no one would even know they are kids, it's just that they've already learned to behave like adults.

Throw a bunch of kids into their own cage, and it will retard their forum maturity process.

Just my opinion.

I voted undecided, I think interacting with older collectors the kids might learn more. I donno if I'll be popping into the YN section to be honest with ya, dealing with the very young requires patience that sometimes I can't deal with. As for security, they should know by now that personnal information should NEVER be posted over the internet--If they don't know that by now, well then I'm telling them now!! Even I, at my age do not post personnal info on ANY web site, not even my birth date--heck yawl don't even know how old I am or where I live--(except the 3 or 4 that I have shared that info with, like Richard & Terry & Susan & Bobby--)Only peeps I trust. Doesn't mean I don't trust others here, it on a need to know type basis if ya know what I mean.

I like the idea but could you tell if an adult signed up as a yn? Perhaps it would be good if yn profiles could be locked closed.

I voted undecided , I can see a few reasons for a section such as this, but I can see a few more reasons why not to have an area like this.

Probly my biggest concern is that it will turn into a playroom, where nothing serious gets accomplished, and require almost constent supervision by the mods.

second is that we really dont know who is a YN ,, the profile age means little since some of the adult members are still 13 years old ,, we have no conclusive way of determining age ?

These are a couple of my concerns I have others of lesser importance, but with more of a personal opinion flavor, one of which is that we have already in this society set our kids to far away from adult influence and guideance.

I voted Undecided, but if I were deciding, it wouldn't happen. First, a community like this represents a new type of reality, one which dictates that absolutely no differing behaviors be shown anyone based upon what they say they are, because you'll never know who exactly they are. That leads to....

Second, you have no way of knowing whether you are protecting the YN's, or creating a more fertile environment for perverts. Your only clue as to the age of the poster is how they identify themselves. According to my profile, I was 13 for quite a long while until just recently, and I'm 47 chronologically, or at least that's what I'm telling you.
Rest in Peace

I like the idea.

I try and go back in memory to when I was in high school, and I know that I would have enjoyed such a section back then. Of course, at that time, dinosaurs roamed the earth and there was no internet.

Anyway, good idea I think.

I voted yes , but I think they should be avle to talk in our forum as well, just think its giving them a piece of something to call there own so to speak, and a great selling tool to get other kids in volved, but could also mean lots of work for the moderators, uncles and aunts, moms and dads

I abstained from voting as I want to see what the general consensus is. There have been some very good points made in regard to keeping everything on the public forum and I am currently leaning in that direction. However, I plan to let this poll run for quite a while before making a decision.

I voted undecided.

Although there may be advantages of such a section, on the internet how are we supposed to know who is 15 and who is 50. All we know abot the member's age is what he/she tells us.

I agree with scoutjim99 that if they have there own they should be able to still be a part of all other pages. I will think if you did something for them do something like the Genreal discion page and the knight page. were you have to be granted promission to go there. That way they have a place for some of there own topics of intest but are still envovled in our. If we look at thekidcollecter he is a YN and he was brought a lot to this board. also think he could be one that could really help other young collectors if they had there own section. But Susan and bobby have always made the right and best descison for this forum that is why it is so friendly and good.

HI Everyone,
I belong to magic forum. Yes Magic. I preform for parties in front of adults and older kids. On this magic forum it is crawling with little immature kids. They spell like stuff type stuff that a english proffesor would not understand. On this forum I learned to act mature to steer away from these kids.

OF course I voted yes but I'm pretty sure all most most of you never thought I was 14. Right? So yes I voted towards the section but I have no hard time on this forum interacting with people years older than me.

Thanks for hearing me out!
