I am sure this is a stupid question for many. But .. it has been many years since I bought anything on E bay. And then I just sent a check.

This past week I opened a separate checking account that has a visa card attached to it. Put $500 into the checking account.

Then opened a paypal account. I guess the first question I have is, do I transfer funds from my checking account to paypal or will paypal take from my account when I make a purchase? And once I make a purchase I assume I will get a e mail from the seller with some sort of information on how to pay for item with paypal. I am looking at buying 400 square dime coin tubes from a seller in MN, for a $160 (counting shipping)and do not want to mess up my first purchase.

I would be thankful for any info I can get.

GoldRush58,

When I signed up for PayPal I used my credit card number and they just charge whatever I bought to it. Recently I added my checking account so now I can use either one.

After you bid on something on e-bay and win it, E-Bay will send you an e-mail telling you that you did win it and there will be a box that says Pay Now using PayPal, juct click on it and follow the instructions. It is very easy after you do it a few times. Hope this helps,

I recommend NOT linking the checking account, just use the credit card info. That way you have two layers of protection, should anything every go wrong. First Paypal will investigate and try to make things right, and if they don't, your credit card company will try also.

I think it went OK. Got a e mail saying that the seller was paid.

Now .. how many square dime tubes do you think will fit in a small and medium safety deposit box?

I think a person could go crazy on E bay. First few days have purchased a Dolley Madison set (proof and UNC)a Columbus set (dollar and half) and a PCGS Columbus half. Some reason I am not getting the bids on the type coins I am trying for. But have picked up a couple at the coin shop this week.
