Hello could someone please help me, I am new to coin collecting and I would like to know about coin errors. what are easy errors to identify, How to find them, and what coin rolls would be good to pick through at first. Thanks Conrad
One easy error to identify is a clipped planchet. That is where part of the metal bit that gets stamped into a coin (called a planchet) is missing before it gets stamped. The result is a coin that is not a full circle.
first off education is key so what is an error coin?concerning the US mint: ALL coin errors are indeed minting varieties, however not all minting varieties are errors.stated to hopefully reveal that all 'variations' that is to say anything out of the ordinary released by the mint is not automatically a coin 'error' nor a 'error coin'.there are three basic 'types' of errors those that affect the planchet(the*usually* a round metal disk),affects to the die(which strikes the planchet) and the last being the actual strike itself.finding 'errors'in the wild has decreased since the ending of US mint release of (smaller)bags of coinage.nowdays very large ballistic type bags are bought by armoured car services.they have their own counting/rolling machines.where 'nowdays' I think most of the 'errors' are 'caught' so to speak.search any and all rolls that interest you.enjoy the hunt.
