Hi. Yes 1921 is one of the most common dates of this series, with a mintage of over 129,000,000 million pieces according to Kruse

Very common year in low condition. Krause's mintage figure on this coin is right, however, try finding a Uncirculated example of this year, it would be a medium level challenge. judging from the scans, I think your coin is EF maybe a little less.

copy and thanks jeff & moly, I think I got carried away by the dealer's hype on this one. Price paid was definitely not "common"... well, that's one for the experience.

also I only noticed it now, the yellow spots on the Obv are light reflections on the flip film, not on the coin, dont know how that happened

No problem Nic, based on the trident and helmet of Britannia, as much as I can see this is a Ef coin, maybe a gVF but I can say in this condition, it worth around 0,70$-0,80$ to me. Give you a little tip on grading British Pennies, always take a magnifier at least 6x and check the fingers holding the trident, if the fingers are distinct and visible, move to the visor of the helmet. It should be high and unworn, than you definately have a uncleaned and a handsome penny.

Plus, always check if a "mint-darkened" farthing or penny twice to see any artifical "lustre" if it has, than the coin is circulated and cleaned which is a "opps whack" for numismatic value :)

Just want to know, how much did you pay on that Nic. :)..
Another thing, don't go after "shiny" pre-decimal UK pennies, lustre commands a premium for those conis and most of them got artifically shined to fool the unexperienced eye. However, years between 1961-1967 are easier to obtain (especially 1967) in lustre.

Hi moly, it was in a 22 piece mixed lot of various type foriegn coins, all at equivalent US$50. so that averages equivalent about US$ 2.50 apiece. The mix was interesting + the dealers hype. Overall it was a good buy
