Dear Senior Collectors,
I plan to trade some of my unwanted coins for a flowing hair dollar (around $4,000). A trusted coin store offered me $2,500 for below coins; thus, I need to pay for around $1,500. Do you think the below coins worth about $2,500 or even more? Thank you in advance for your opinions.
1. 1855 gold dollar (type 2) PCGS AU50. 2. 8 Australian lunar 0.1 oz gold coins, including years from 1996 (rat) through 2003 (sheep). (for a total of 0.8 oz gold) 3. 17 American silver eagle dollars - Proof (all PCGS PR69DCAM), including years from 1987 through 2003. 4. 17 American silver eagle dollars - Brilliant Uncirculated, including years from 1987 through 2003.

That actually really doesn't sound that bad. $500 for the type 2 G$1, $130 each for the lunars (I may be underestimating) for a total of $1040, $40 per proof silver eagle ($680) and $22 per BU (about $375).
That comes out to about $2600; when considering its a store, $2500 is quite decent. But I may be wrong if the lunars and proof silver eagles should fetch substantially higher, so I'll let others chime in on that.

I'd keep 'em and put the flowing hair dollar on layaway. But, that's just the way I am.

If this was a poll that answer would get my vote.

Another question worth asking is, how much is that Flowing Hair Dollar actually worth? For that money - don't forget, this is a prime target of counterfeiters - I want to see the coin in a PCGS F12 slab at least, or in a Details slab with XF detail. This isn't a coin I'd buy raw from my Mom, much less any dealer. Some of the fakes out there are of a quality to deceive all but the true experts.

I agree with seeing it slabbed first. Also there is a premium on the 96 ASE's

Dear All: Thank you for your suggestions. Based on your responses, the offer seems reasonable. The picutes of the 1795 flowing hair are shown below (copyright by the Gary Adkins Associates, Inc.). Based on the website descriptions, Gary Adkins and the company seems a reliable coin dealer.

Thanks, SuperDave. As a new coin collector, I only buy a coin with the cost over $100 if it's certified by the PCGS. Hopefully, there is no counterfeit PCGS slab.
For those who thought I should keep my coins and get the flowing hair dollar, I do wish I could do that.

Two Leaves type, and a reasonable purchase at $4k in a PCGS F12 slab.
In all, this sounds like a pretty fair deal for you both. The one detail which jumps to mind, though, is the 1995 Proof Eagle - is it by some chance a West Point-minted coin?

No, it is 1995-P. Thanks.
