"Junk silver" to me means 90% silver, common-date US coins that have value mainly or completely due to their silver content. Such coins are generally well-circulated and may have scratches, rim dings, holes, harsh cleaning or polishing, or other damage. On ebay this stuff routinely brings 12 to 13 times face value due to the current high silver spot price. If you want nicer coins you will have to pay more, right?

Not always! I just received a lot which cost me less than 12X face and included some very decent coins, such as two Walking Liberty halves in AU and a very nice mint-state 1962 quarter with the Type 2 reverse. Some coins were notable for their very colorful toning. Anyway, this was my best recent purchase on the Bay. Here are a few photos. The 1964-D quarter has exceptionally pretty toning which my images do not fully capture.

Nice score. I hadn't considered looking at junk silver auctions for collector quality coins. You may have just increased the competition for lots like that.

One persons "junk" is another persons treasure ! .....

There are a lot of keepers in junk silver batches. I've never had any qualms whatsoever about buying junk silver lots.....just to take a look !

The die chips in STATES on the Barber caught my attention because there's a tripled die reverse with those markers.
It's described here as "Type One Reverse. Tripled Die Reverse. FS-801. Tripling shows on the outer lettering, and doubling appears on a few stars, the ribbon ends, and the arrows.
A late die state with die chips nearly filling the upper loops of the first and second S in STATES."

Do you suppose your coin is the same? Here's a (large) photo of reverse for comparison. Nice finds in "junk silver"!
