Searching through my large collection, I wondered what might be worthy of a mention in this section, then I remembered My Daughter bought me these lovely coins Last Xmas, They were issued as 25th Anniversary Silver Proofs, with the Reverse Design plated with 0.999 Gold.


Northern-Ireland--£1-Coins-2008

The First one depicts The Flax Plant with 6 flowers (one for each county in Northern Ireland, which was used in Northern Ireland for centuries in the making of linen,

Northern-Ireland--£1-Coins-2008

The Second one depicts the Famous Broighter Collar, a fabulous gold Celtic Torque found in Lough Foyle in 1896, the collar is superimposed on a Celtic Cross decorated with spiral and geometric designs..

The 3rd Coin Depicts John Benjamin MacNeills, Egyptian Arch.

Oh I forgot to say, The Issue limit on this set was 750, Sorry about the quality of lighting on the photos, still learning how to photograh coins.

Thank you for sharing that coin. I didn't even know Northern Ireland minted their own coins. I just assumed they'd use Euros.

Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom (or Great Britain). They still have pounds. And to acknowledge their diversity UK minted a series of one pound coins with symbols signifying different parts/origins of the country, including Scottish thistle, Welsh leek, No. Irish flax and others.
The republic of Ireland, which occupies central and southern part of the island has converted to euros.
