For the last year, I have had somewhat of an obsession with the Double Eagle High Relief Coin. The Double Eagle High Relief is one of the hottest, most talked about coins. So for the last year I have been hoping that gold would bottom out. I figured that if gold dropped in price, then the Double Eagle price would also fall, but that hasn't happened so I accept the fact that this coin is way out of my budget.
About 2 weeks ago I found a great looking silver High Relief Coin from the
Perth Mint. The coin depicts a famous event in Greek History. According to Ancient Historian Thucydides, a soldier in the Athenian army named Pheidippides ran 26 miles from the battle of Marathon to Athens in order to proclaim victory over the Persians. This famous battle and run is commemorated on a High Relief Coin which is legal tender for the nation of Tuvalu.
The coin shows Pheidippides raising his hand in victory as he is running through the city of Athens. It is struck in silver and is far less expensive than the Double Eagle High Relief Coin. I finally received it in the mail yesterday. I couldn't believe how beautiful this coin is. I don't know how else to say it but, I'm quite satisfied to add this High Relief coin to my collection and I haven't thought about the Double Eagle in 2 days.
Unfortunately my digital camera broke a few months ago, so I am unable to post a photo, but If you go to the
Perth Mint's web site, you can see the High Relief Coin. I almost forgot, this coin can be purchased for less than $100.00. Once I get a new camera which could be this week, I will post pictures.
