I know this has been discussed before, I just can't find the thread. What do you put on your Custom forms when it comes to declaration. I rarely send coins Internationally. Thanks. swcoin.ecrater.com

The customs tariff in Canada describes Tariff Item # 9705.00.00 as "Collections and collectors' pieces of zoological, botanical, mineralogical, anatomical, historical, archaeological, alaeontological, ethnographic or numismatic interest."
- - - - -Coins: 11 - - - - - -Gold... 19 - - - - - -Other . 20 - - - - -Medals.
I think "numismatic interest" or "numismatic interest: coins" should be enough.

"alaeontological" ? is that a uniquely Canadian word ? or, maybe an abbreviation of "palaeontological" ? Peter in Oz

I just declare "numismatic items" and I've never had a problem.

I have used "souvenir coins" before with no problem.

It's not wise to put "coins" on any package, just "hobby supplies" will do.

Nice living in Turkey. We don't have to fill out those forms unless the package we are sending is above 2 kilograms :)
I always see "Numismatic Supplies" or "Numismatic Samples" in custom forms I receieve from the UK and the US.

Most the parcels that I receive from the US or Canada with coins have hobby supplies on it.

Quote: "alaeontological" ? It should read "palaeontological", my mistake.

Most of the time, in reality, I don't even bother, if all I am sending is six or less coins -- I put them in 2x2's and use peelable tape to tape them onto a backing piece of cardboard, which I cut twice the size necessary so that I can fold the unused potion upward and tape together at the top, like a cardboard sleeve. It goes into the envelope, which is taped all along the flap, and I mark "Hand Cancel" or "Do Not Machine" on the face of it in big red letters. Never had a problem.
