Nice batch of coins there, Scoutjim, let's see what you've got:

Coin 1: a bit of a mystery, here - it's Doge Antonio Priuli (1618-1623) all right, and the design looks like a scudo (KM/DAV# 4239) - except scudos have "140" at the base. Yours has "70" (the number is the denomination, in soldi). That should mean this is a half-scudo, only Krause doesn't list anything smaller than a ducatone (124 soldi). It could be an omission on Krause's part...

Coin 2: Austrian Netherlands, kronenthaler series - I can't tell if that's a quarter or half kronenthaler - the design is identical, it depends on the diameter. Either way, it's a "B" mintmark (Kremnitz mint), slightly scarcer than "A" in 1788. CV for the ¼ (KM# 38, 29mm diam.) $18 in Fine; for the ½ (KM# 34, 35mm diam.) $30 in Fine.

Coin 3: Looks like you don't need much help there - it's an Austrian ¼ florin, KM# 2214. "B" is the commonest of the four mintmarks that year (A, B, E and V). CV $5 in VF.

Coin 4: Austrian Netherlands (yes, it does correspond near enough to modern-day Belgium) 1 liard, 1745, "hand" mintmark (Antwerp), KM# 1. That one's quite worn; CV is $2 in VG.

Coin 5: Austria, not a ¼, but a ½ kreuzer, undated (struck in 1760), KM# 1985; the portrait is Empress Maria Theresa, looking much younger than she does on the famous thaler. CV $3 in VG.

Additional info for coin 1: no, I haven't found it, but did notice the mintmaster's initials: GR. Giacomo Renier was MM from 1618 to 1620; that narrows the date down a little more.

Er, thanks KLD (and everyone else).

No, I don't have near-omniscient coin knowledge - just a huge pile of books on the floor behind me here. I'd take a photo of them to show you (it's really quite impressive) except:
- I can't find my camera. Must be under the books somewhere... [:p]
- The rest of the family would much prefer I cleaned up my mess, rather than take pictures of it.

Guess I better start putting this stuff away.

I also have piles of reference books, along with lots of coins from ancient times to the 1700's, so I can sometimes identify these things. Sap always seems to do such a good job that by the time I get around to it, there isn't much to add.

Keep up the good work, Sap!
