I have been collecting lunar series coins from the world (12 animals). The type coins that I have include Canada hologram and cameo designs, Australia silver and 1/10th gold, China silver, color silver, fan shaped and flower shaped, Macau, and Taiwan coins. If you compare these coins, you will find that they all look similar except Canada lunar hologram coins. Personally I love the hologram design the most. I only have one - snake hologram coin. Anyone also collect these hologram coins? Below please find the most recent release from the Canadian Royal Mint - the year of tiger (pictures by the Canadian Royal Mint).

I don't collect them...they are a little pricey for me...but I will admit even tho the mint puts out alot of 'fluff' that really seems to get away from the basics of coins, I do enjoy and appreciate their ingenuity and design with these types of designs.

Yes, these coins are too pricy currently, partly due to its 75% gold content. I have one 2001 snake hologram coin purchased around $170 in 2002. (The one oz gold was around $350 at that time.) Since the gold price is getting higher and higher; thus, I decided to stop collecting the hologram series until 1 oz gold drops to $300. I only have one lunar hologram coin for my lunar type coins. Dollar1948: How about the lunar cameo coins (1998-2009) and lunar lotus coins (2010-2021)? I am trying to decide which series I should try to have a complete set - either trying to complete my cameo coins or trying to order new lotus coins directly from the Canadian Royal Mint? Below pictures are from Canadian Royal Mint website.

China also issues a series of flower-shaped lunar coins (see below pictures). It seems a good choice to start from the Canadian lunar lotus coins for my first complete set project. (I think it's better for me to start from the most popular lunar coins because their prices may become higher in the coming years. However, for those without a good popularity, I guess I can purchase them with a reasonable price even several years later.) (Copyright of the pictures belongs to the PandaAmerica.com)

It appears to me that not many people in this forum are interested in lunar coins from either Canada, China, or Australia.

Dude...I love them all! But because of the cost they are a little out of my league..thats all. Sure I could buy them, but they would drain my monthly coin budget PDQ, and I would not be to enjoy collecting my other efforts....Canadian Decimal coins, BU Lincoln's etc. All the power to ya.

How did the "Lunar Hologram Coins" turned into "Lunar Coins"? Anyway, I got these three lunar Aussie coins, not for my collection, even though I collect QE II. Each coin is for my kid, their birth year. I'll give them the coins on their 16th birthday (or when I see they are mature enough to take care of them).

Well...it seems no one collects Canada lunar hologram coins; thus, I changed the discussion topic to lunar coins. Perhaps I should have a topic as Queen Elizabeth coins. The obverse of all Australia and Canada lunar coins is QE2.
