I have been metal detecting a long time, and everyone wants a metal detector that will do everything. I have never seen one that will do all types of metal detecting. There are several different types of detecting.
- coin hunting
- relic hunting
- gold nugget hunting
- beach hunting (dry sand)
- water hunting (salt or fresh water)
- competition hunting

There are many good sites online that go into detail as to what frequencies are better for each situation.
I think you have to depend on the manufacturer to use the best frequency for each situation. And without knowing what you really want to use the machine for, would make it hard to tell you what would be best for you.

most metal detectors operate at around 5khz for all purpose. Look at the whites MXT, it has selections for coins, relics or prospecting. The prospecting circuitry is the same as their GMT (prospecting specific) detector
