The 1893S alone is worth the current asking price.

How high will it go?

I think conventional wisdom says you're much better off selling coins individually. I wouldn't be surprised if the seller gets reamed as compared to the actual value of the whole set. Then again maybe he might get lucky and have a couple of wealthy bargain hunters get in a bidding war.

Edit: Also the seller said, "usually you will have to pay a 15-22% buyer's premium from one of the major auction houses."

While this isn't a lie, it's misleading. The buyer premium affects the seller more than the buyer. If the market values a coin at $1000, it will be bid up to 869.57

I think $15K will be the top end for this sale.

Would you honestly put out that kind of money on something that you could not examine in person?.
Rest in Peace

Less than $12000, if there are no fakes then someone got a smashing deal.

Yeah, I only wish I had 12 grand to plop down like that. For those that do they have a huge advantage over other Ebayers. A large collection like that should be sold bit by bit for sure.

I wonder if it was a regular collector or a dealer that bought it. I think he would have been better off going to Heritage with it. Even with higher seller's commissions I bet he would have made more with them. They probably could have helped him determine the best way to market them as well (i.e. whole set or coin by coin).
