I posted a couple of months ago about my friends huge stash of change he collected for some 25+ years. Today I finally finished the first round of pennies. I guesstimate there was about 20,000. He still have at least another 20k left for me to collect from his house along with nickels, dimes and quarters....I have no idea how many of those, but there's a a LOT.

From the frist round of cents, I found: ~300 wheat cents, mostly 50's, the oldest was a 1919-S in EF. Ton's of BU's from the 1980's and up. I got about 3 rolls of 1986-D in BU. Some nice toners from the 70's up. A 1999 WAM thats about MS-62 RD. Two Mason, 3D counter stamped Wheats in AU. About 30% copper in all. I was able to upgrade my Zincoln BU roll set with some real gems. My 1980's rolls except for 1990D, 1991D, 1997D, 1988D are all gem quality, red BU's.

I bought him 3 Whitman folders to put some nice coins in. I was able to completely fill the 1975 to date with red coins and mostly fill the middle folder with Wheats and Memorials. The early Wheats folder is severely lacking, but it's at least started.

Next, I have a bag of quarters and a bag of nickels to search. I'm no expert in these, but I'm going to search for keys and BU's, the rest will go to the bank.

It's a been a LOT of work seaching these cents! I don't even know how many hours I've put in, but it's a lot. At least I saved these from the Coinstar machine!

somehow, I'm betting that it didn't feel like "work" though eh?

I've never sorted through a stash that large, but it's always fun when friends and/or family bring me a baggie/coffee can/tupperware container full to sort through.

Cheers!

That's the kinda work I like.

Sounds like the 1999 WAM was the highlight of that search. Keep us informed.

Congrats!

I'm envious Thad! I wish a huge stash like that would come my way. Sounds like you pulled some nice pieces out of there, and congrats on the 1999 WAM!

All I've gotten to look at from friends or family are common date wheats and a few silver coins. Good luck in your next "work" effort sorting through the rest of it. Can you keep whatever you find ?

with all the above ...... lot's of fun-filled work searching all those coins.

The 1919-s in EF sounds like fun ...... and the 99 WAM seems like a great score ......

Bottom line .... thanks for saving them from the Coinstar.

If you are running low on energy ..... you can always ship the nickels to me and I'll pay the freight and fill your buddies Whitman.
