This former coin - now exunomia, I suppose - came out of a 48-pound CoinStar reject bag. The top image doesn't show just how concave this poor fellow is now. I'm wondering if there is some kind of commercial die or machine that does this, as the "overstrike" is much too sharp and well-made to be the idle work of someone with too much time on his hands. Also, the entire Zincoln has been lacquered after the fact, even over the dark spot covering the word "Trust". Anyone else ever seen anything like this?

At least they didn't do it to a collectible coin.

I like the way the coin looks. Something different. The other question is where can I buy a 48 pound Coin Star reject bag.

it was probably some counterfeiter testing their dies to see how they look before they use up their stock planchets. That was really wrote in jest but I am almost sure it was done with a die of some sort but really have no clue as to why

48-pound bags ... my coin dealer gets them from an armored car company; I believe they're CoinStar rejects. I believe this bag came out of Kansas City, as there were a number of tokens from St. Joseph, KC, Wichita, Topeka, Branson, etc. I collect mostly foreign coins and have found examples of coins from all over the world, from Albania to Zambia. This bag had about 10 pounds of Canadian quarters which I am just starting to go through - coggie59, if you're reading this, I'll give you a shout when I'm done going through them. I find a few pre-1900 coins in most of these bags, too. (Lay up your stock of Lava soap, however - these coins are FILTHY!).
Bryan, what's odd about this mutilation is that the two pix clearly show that the die used in the top picture had to be incuse. The indent is about 1/8 of an inch, too; the Zincoln now looks like an ancient Byzantine cup coin.
