I was just breaking open some mint sets. The 2004 D State Quarter pack has a Texas quarter the looks a lot like the State Quarters that come from the 2005 and up sets. Does any anyone know if there have been any such quarters. I tried to take a pic, I don't think the pics show it as well as it looks in hand. I don't really want to cut it open until I know if if could be something?

Hmm....I wish I knew more about this. Anything's possible I'd say. For example, there have been 1964 SMS coins certified by the major TPGs. The theory on these is that they were prototypes for the Special Mint Sets, of which the first "official" ones were dated 1965. It's definitely possible that something similar could have happened in 2004 in preparation for the debut of the satin finish in 2005. But this is all speculation on my part. I'm sadly no expert on State Quarters nor the most recent Mint Sets

On this set it is only the Texas D quarter. The picture really does not show it well. I have shown this set to two other people, asking if they saw anything different with the quarters. Both picked out the Texas quarter as looking different. When I show them a 2009 satin finish quarter next to it, they say they looks the same. I guess I was hoping that some others have found something like this also.
