Hello again. Can anyone tell me what world coins were made by U.S. mint in 1968, or where I can locate said info. Have off weight coin from 1968 and do not know what metal it is, just that it is underweight. Coin weighs in at 9.7 grams. Full size slightly thin 1968d Kennedy half dollar. Any guesses? What would be best place to have coin like this authenticated? The grading services or perhaps ANA? Would like to know exactly what it is. Is it on foreign planchet, or is is some form of an experimental metal? Any help appreciated. Thanx

In 1968 the US Mint minted coins for

Canada
Costa Rica
Isreal
Liberia
Panama
Philippines
Salvador

But not all of the above countries coins were of the same diameter as a Kennedy half, so that would narrow it down a bit.

Looking at the edge, do you see any of the clad layers, or is it solid? How sharp is the strike? I am thinking it could also be missing a clad layer.

Can you post any pictures? It may help out a bit.

I you can rule out it being a missing clad layer, I would be happy to try to help you figure out what kind of planchet it may have possibly been struck on.
