If you look between the bottom of the 4 and 6 on the date there is the faint outline of what to me looks like a 1. Can I get some enlightenment on what this could be. Thank you.

It could be die wear, it could be a die gouge. What it definitely is not - a date digit. Without FAR closer images that are well lit and focused, it's really impossible to tell for sure.

Just to make a point...

What year model is this Mustang?
