2000 p PCGS MS66 Struck on Scrap Massachusetts Error

Pretty cool. What are the odds of a scrap like that flowing through the process and actually getting in the striking chamber?

Oh good grief, PCGS makes a typo and the seller blindly repeats it. That scrap does not weigh 45 grams, 4.5 grams should probably be the correct weight. If I remember correctly, the new riddlers were put in place in 2001, making the chance of getting an error like that nowadays incredibly difficult if not almost impossible.

That's sure an interesting "scrap". I'd love to know exactly how that happened.
I'm a little amused by the seller's detailed instructions on giving them 5 stars.

PCGS may mean 45 grains. That would be close I think.

Possibly, that would make the planchet 49% light(2.92g vs. 5.67g) but it doesn't quite look like half a coin

"Scrap" is a non-specific term that is nowadays used to describe perhaps a dozen different errors. In this case, the slab appears to contain an off-center strike on a triple-clipped planchet.

Looks also to have an elliptical clip?

An elliptical clip is unlikely and is essentially impossible to prove when combined with curved clips unless the coin is struck in-collar.
