Sap Moderator Australia 16834 Posts	Posted 12/30/2009 09:31 am It's not a genuine cast Chinese cash coin - it's a machine-struck reproduction. The bubbly background fields give it away as such. The inscription isn't one used on coinage either - I can't read the eight-side character at all. There's no indication of scale, but I assume it's fairly large? Large, "coin-like charms" such as this were (and still are) popular in parts of China and in Vietnam, to attach to a house. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff

Sap Moderator Australia 16834 Posts	Posted 12/30/2009 09:54 am OK, I've got the literal translation of the two characters I can read: the top and bottom characters together (ji xiang in the modern Chinese spelling) translate to "auspicious", the sort of thing you'd want to put on a charm. But I'm afraid the script used for the other two characters is too stylized for me to read.
