Because they work independent of the main detector any pin-pointer will do. Just keep in mind that some are better than others. I got one for free with my Ace 250. I am sure it is a cheap one even though Kellyco has it listed for like $149.00. It works OK, you have to be within about 1/2 inch of your target for it to sound off. It is kinda large and bulky. I am gonna use it till it quits and get a better one. I do not know what to recommend so the choice is yours.

andre1621 you don't need one your 250 has a pinpoint function built into it. Practice will get you to within half an inch of the target easily. I can pinpoint coins to the point where I can just flip them out of the ground with a screwdriver.

I have never used a pin pointer other than the one my detector has built into it.

once mastered its dependable and accurate.

I use a whites eagle spectrum.

that pinpointer Kellyco offers with purchase is a pretty good little model. One point though. before you use it to dig around in the hole you made, take a piece of 1/2inch pvc and strengthen the shaft of the pointer, the plastic wand is pretty brittle. use the tip to pinpoint. I found that out the hard way and had to shorten the length of the wand. I used about a 6 inch piece of the pvc

I've had mine for about 3 years now. It's starting to wear out but I can't see shelling out almost 200 for a pointer, they have a special running at this time

I agree with Metalman...once you master pin pointer on the 250, you will not need a hand held one. I'm still trying to master mine...and finding it is quite accurate!

You might also look into the vibraprobe if you hunt with headphones. It vibrates when the tip gets near the find

Andre,

Most new folks to the hobby don't realize they can pass a clump of material over the top of the detector and get a signal. Make sure you don't have any metal on your hand/arm (rings or watches) and while the detector coil is on the ground and you are on your hands and knees, just pass a dirt clod over the coil. If a metal object is in the clod, the detector will sound off.

I find that probes aren't worth the expense. Most have a range of about 1/2" so what's the point. I'm going to be down there anyway, so I just use the coil to narrow the search.

I use the pinpointer on my coil to find the target, but I use a screwdriver to pop the target out of the ground. I don't dig plugs, mostly because I don't want to get arrested for disturbing city park land/vegetation. So after inserting said screwdriver in hole, I take the pointer and locate the target without taking a piece of sod with it. A lot of the coins and jewelery I find are about 3-5 inches below the surface, a plug with a 4 inch top would be really noticable.

Just my .02
